In 2012, Berger Anziutti, the architect agency tasked with redeveloping Les Halles, contacted us to rethink the signage for the Châtelet-les-Halles RER and metro interchange hub. The project aimed to improve foot traffic flow in the largest underground station in Europe, which welcomes more than 26 million passengers each year. The redevelopment and new signage appear on the platforms and passenger hall, which has been extended by 50% for the occasion. Three new direct access routes from the outside have also been created. We wanted to make all the elements in enamelled sheet metal, which is one of the traditional materials used in Paris metro signage. The concentric shape of the directional signs displays information and distances in order. The project is now installed and we are delighted to have simplified daily life for many Parisians.
