Set of five charred-wood coffee tables known as Basalt. All eight copies of this table come from the same oak trunk, which was cut then re-assembled, preserving only the rings formed by the heartwood, a noble element which is also described as “perfect wood”. Each piece is hand-cut, and its surface charred with a blowtorch. The process is called Shou Sugi Ban and in Japan is used as a finish. It gives the wood a mineral look, reveals its nature and captures it like a fossil, a basalt organ.
Limited edition with eight copies, two prototypes and two artist’s copies.
All the pieces are numbered and signed.
